We'd like to acknowledge the official anniversary date of the disaster, which was Sunday, July 17th. Over 200 guests were in attendance to pay their respects to the fallen. David Salniker was this year's 2022 recipient of the Friends of Port Chicago Commemorative Hero’s Award. Mr. Salniker was not able to attend but provided a pre-recorded audio acceptance speech. Salesforce Resource Groups Boldface (African American Employees) and Vetforce (Military Veteran Employees) hosted a panel to discuss the largest military disaster on American soil during WW II killing 320 sailors of whom over 200 were Black and the ensuing plight of 50 surviving sailors who refused to recommence loading ammunition after the explosion with no safety training or equipment being provided nor was the actual cause of the disaster identified.
