Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial – The Commemoration of the 78th Anniversary Photo Album

Please enjoy these photos of the July 16, 2022 Commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the Port Chicago explosion. We'd like to acknowledge the official anniversary date of the disaster, which was Sunday, July 17th. Over 200 guests were in attendance to pay their respects to the fallen. David Salniker was this year's 2022 recipient of the Friends of Port Chicago Commemorative Hero’s Award. Mr. Salniker was not able to attend but provided a pre-recorded audio acceptance speech. Guest speakers & participants included the following: -NPS Superintendent K. Lynn Berry -U.S. Navy Chaplain Michael A. Chester (LT) -Lieutenant Colonel LTC Kyle W. Brown, Commander of 834th Transportation Battalion -Interpretation, Education and Outreach Division Manager Kelli English -Shanelle Scales-Preston, District Director, Office of U.S. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) Camarin Madigan, Friends of Port Chicago National Memorial Roger Bazeley U.S. Coast Guard AUXPA1 Public Affairs Bugler and Musician.
